Saturday, September 25, 2010Tuesday, September 21, 2010OH - WHAT HAS HAPPENEDWhat is that around my eyes - I know, it's because I laugh a lot and my glasses magnify 1000 times. For goodness sake there's something around my neck - it's my necklace... phew I was worried for a minute. No wonder I hide behind my verandah, and no Hairdresser on this earth would be game enough to even try to tell me I needed it cut. It's my security blanket. My Grandkids don't care whether I've got wrinkles and my hair has turned to silver - and you know - neither do I.

Friday, August 20, 2010Monday, August 16, 2010TWIRLY WHIRLY FOR MY LITTLE GIRLSI made these TWIRLY WHIRLY scarves for my little girls TWIRLY WHIRLY SCARF 9mm circular needle. 3 balls wool - assorted Cast on 80 stitches (or 100 if you would like it long or more) Garter stitch 4 rows Next row - knit, purl, knit into each stitch across row (change wool) Garter stitch 4 rows Next row - knit, purl into each stitch (change wool) Garter stitch 4 rows. Cast off. I cast on with a plain yarn, then the next 4 rows something different, and then on the last lot of knitting 4 rows, I changed to a pretty funky texture. Enjoy casting off, because you can hardly wait to see how it twirls, and seems to take forever. Have fun!! and here's how to make a TWIRLY WHIRLY CURL

Monday, January 25, 2010AUSTRALIA DAY
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY
My Country - Dorothea Mackellar The love of field and coppice, Of green and shaded lanes, Of ordered woods and gardens Is running in your veins. Strong love of grey-blue distance Brown streams and soft, dim skies - I know but I cannot share it, My love is otherwise. I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of rugged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding plains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me! The stark white ring-barked forests, All tragic to the moon, The sapphire-misted mountains, The hot gold rush of noon. Green tangle of the brushes, Where lithe lianas coil, And orchids deck the tree tops And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky, When sick at heart, around us, We see the cattle die - But then the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The steady, soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country Land of the Rainbow Gold, For flood and fire and famine, She pays us back three-fold. Over the thirsty paddocks, Watch, after many days, The filmy veil of greenness That thickens as we gaze ... A opal-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land - All you who have not loved her, You will not understand - Though earth holds many splendours, Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will fly.
